Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
The watch the titles website displayed a storyboard breakdown of title sequences. This website gave the breakdown from the sequence designers themselves. It allowed me to learn how to properly structure my thinking process so that the experience is a simple as can be. It also taught me how to think like a professional title sequence designer; therefore, I can produce one that looks as professional as possible. It showed me examples from different designers part of different films; some of which were horror.  I did this research on this site  because  a title  sequence  is  required  in my final project. They also had a section  specifically  for the genre horror which was perfect for my project. It told me specific information that I need to make a title  sequence  for a horror film.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
The art of the title website was about title sequences and how they are displayed. I learned that a title sequence is a short clip in which a films title, production, cast and tone is presented to an audience. Similar to what an announcer at a play does, the title sequence is supposed to give the audience some context as to what is supposed to come. They showed me the title sequences for the series of films which gave me visual representation. They broke down the different things that got into a good title sequence  like  conceptual visuals and sound. I did this research on this site because  a title sequence  is required  in my final project. They also had a section specifically  for the genre horror which was perfect for my project. It told me specific information that I need to make a title sequence  for a horror film. Information like learning how to give just enough to grab audiences attention but not too much to give the whole story away. ...

Genre Research: Bird Box

Image
The movie starts off as a town of people come under attack by a predator that if seen will kill on instant. The line survivors of this attack must find safety while blindfolded. This causes Jessica and her children to embark on a dangerous journey to safety while the danger is around them. This movie was my favorite because of two key elements. The first one being the element of surprise. This whole movie is about the unseen enemy for those who are alive. Meaning that while blindfolded anything and everything could happen. This element made the movie scary because every second they were up against something they couldn’t even see. The second element was the risk to humanity. The survivors witnessed family, friends and their while lives fall victim to this unseen enemy. Their lives had changed forever in the span of minutes. It eerily was apparent that their lives could end as well. This had a huge effect on the viewers by making the feel that their life was also impacted based on...

Genre Research: Get Out

Image
This movie starts out as a white woman introducing her black boyfriend and their interracial relationship to her parents. Events occur which lead the boyfriend to suspect the unexpected. He ends up finding himself in unfamiliar territory with people who mean him no good. Several elements in this movie stuck out to me. One in particular was the element of surprise. When the boyfriend ( Chris) sensed that something was up, surprise after sulfide occurred which eventually lead him to his answer. The element of humanity was also at stake in this movie. The cult that Chris discovered had dangerous plans that could’ve effected all of humanity. Their ideologies like taking the brains of humans and using it for evil scientific advance risked humanity. This had a huge effect on the viewers by making the feel that their life was also impacted based on what happened in the end. I think the risk to humanity is a smart element and I hope to used it in my project. The element of graphic violenc...

Genre Research: Annabelle

Image
This movie starts out as a nice gesture of a doting husband to his wife. He gives her a doll that is thought to be the epitome of beauty. Later on in the story, that doll gets invaded with evil spirits and becomes a demon herself. For the rest of the movie, Annabelle terrorizes a sweet family. Thus turning their worst nightmare into their reality. Many elements of this movie were involved in this movie which made it such a hit. The first one I noted was the element of unpredictably. Had you just watch the first 10 minutes of this movie you would have predicted it was a comedy or something. The instant turn of event through this movie is what kept me on the edge of my seat. The element of unpredictably is one that I am sure to use in my project. Another element I noticed was the element of life and death. This element is what drove Annabelle to be as evil as he was. This element is what also made this family fight so hard to get those demonic spirits out of their home. I will be su...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
I have come to my final decision that horror with be the genre in which my final project is based upon.  My decision was made out of many factors. Firstly, my favorite film genre is horror it’s self. I have always had fun watching horror films. I also appreciate a lot of the simple complexities that the horror genre withholds. Most of my favorite films of all time are horror movies. Personally, I feel that my love for horror will bring out creativity that I wouldn’t be able to in other genres. In addition, I have watched more horror films to grab inspiration from so I can produce a wonderful final project. I feel that me working in some what my comfort zone will allow for a safe space for a multitude of ideas. Secondly, since I am working by myself I have to use the resources I have. Since I’ve always been a fan of horror, I have lots of Gothic costumes and props. I plan on using what I already have to my advantage for familiarity. Most of these costumes and props come from ...

Genre Research: Horror

In the beginning of the year, I completed a PowerPoint genre project focused on horror. Throughout this project, I was asked to research and present various complexed entities that are part of the horror genre. Slide one, I presented common lighting seen in the horror genre through pictures. Lightings like up lighting, silhouette and underexposure were part of this slide. Second slide was about common camera angles in horror films.  By my research, Close up low angle in tilted angle are three common angles used in horror films. These various angles were presented through pictures on my slide. To illustrate close-up angle, I used the infamous “Get Out” picture of the main character in shock with tears rolling down his face. Third slide, I specified common movement in horror films and explained their impact. For an example the slow zoom movement was used in the horror film “get out” released in 2017. I explained that this movement dramatizes the characters actions or reactions; givin...

My Pitch

Image
Since I am doing this task by myself, I had to come up with pitches surrounding things that I poses. My first pitch was a lighthearted pitch based on my dog. This pitch would've been recorded through my dogs point of view. It would've been concentrated on the time spent during quarantine. How fun it was for her to have her owners with her all day long. Then I would've documented how she felt now that we are starting to get back to regular life. I was going to use voice over as if I was inside my dogs head. Asking why her owners love her so much or why cuddling is their favorite thing to do.  My second pitch was a horror themed one. Within this pitch I am going to utilize a character playing a scary mythological creature playing the antagonist. This creature is going to go to the ends the earth to do destructive damage.  I planned on using myself and sister as actors tying to seek asylum from this killer creature. I plan on recording during nights at a host of different l...

Starting the Final Task Individual

Image
Hi, my name is Jalyn Flournoy, and I am a student in AICE Media Studies. I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High School in the Cambridge program. When choosing classes this year, I was adamant on taking media studies for numerous reasons. Firstly, I heard from upperclassmen who recommended it for its insight in film making which inspired new hobbies for them. I also am exploring different career fields to see where my future should go. Lastly, I heard how fun yet insightful this course is.  I have thoroughly enjoyed media studies this year. Media Studies is the only class that I am taking where my creativity can be displayed in my work. Media studies has also given me knowledgeable information that I would not have if not for this course. Fortunately, time has come where we are staring our final task assignment for the ending of the year. I am personally choosing to work by myself for a couple of reasons. Obviously, Covid-19 pandemic has caused my to do at le...
