Genre Decision Blog

 

I have come to my final decision that horror with be the genre in which my final project is based upon. My decision was made out of many factors. Firstly, my favorite film genre is horror it’s self. I have always had fun watching horror films. I also appreciate a lot of the simple complexities that the horror genre withholds. Most of my favorite films of all time are horror movies. Personally, I feel that my love for horror will bring out creativity that I wouldn’t be able to in other genres. In addition, I have watched more horror films to grab inspiration from so I can produce a wonderful final project. I feel that me working in some what my comfort zone will allow for a safe space for a multitude of ideas. Secondly, since I am working by myself I have to use the resources I have. Since I’ve always been a fan of horror, I have lots of Gothic costumes and props. I plan on using what I already have to my advantage for familiarity. Most of these costumes and props come from years of Halloween. Plus my family is all in to horror also and ready to be my supporting cast through this project. Third, my scenery is more fit for a horror film than anything else. My home is in front of dark wooded area that I plan on using as one of my location scenes. Where I live it tends to get dark really early so that also played part in my decision. I also live by an eerie lake so that will definitely be apart of my project. Overall, I felt that I had more resources to produce a horror project. My personal interest is also horror over any other genre.

 These last couple of days have been stressful for me because of shipping errors. I got an email yesterday that explained to me that I would not receive my thermometer the date I was supposed to. The thermometer that I ordered off of Amazon, delivery date has been pushed back due to a Wearhouse mix up. This effects my filming process in a major way because without it I cannot do anything until I get it. Instead, I networked with a couple of classmates and we shared our different thoughts and ideas for our films. We also shared helpful advice with each other in hopes of helping each other out.  The filming process didn't start today because of unexpected weather. It's been raining and lighting pretty bad. The weather broadcasters are advising that people stay off roads as much as possible. Due to the weather, all of the work I did was from home out of the way of the bad rain storm. I started with using Google Maps and drawing up more possible locations for my scenes. One in particular was the Miramar regional park, that has track and a forest. Those two elements were important to my film so I was very happy to find a place that has both. I also started ordering certain supplies that I would needs for certain scenes in my film. I ordered zip ties for one of my scenes off of amazon. I ordered a location tracker on target and a camera mount from Walmart. I had a sit down talk with my family so we could get on the same page.
