Genre Research: Annabelle
This movie starts out as a nice gesture of a doting husband to his wife. He gives her a doll that is thought to be the epitome of beauty. Later on in the story, that doll gets invaded with evil spirits and becomes a demon herself. For the rest of the movie, Annabelle terrorizes a sweet family. Thus turning their worst nightmare into their reality. Many elements of this movie were involved in this movie which made it such a hit. The first one I noted was the element of unpredictably. Had you just watch the first 10 minutes of this movie you would have predicted it was a comedy or something. The instant turn of event through this movie is what kept me on the edge of my seat. The element of unpredictably is one that I am sure to use in my project. Another element I noticed was the element of life and death. This element is what drove Annabelle to be as evil as he was. This element is what also made this family fight so hard to get those demonic spirits out of their home. I will be sure to used this element in my project to heighten emotional reactions from my audience. An element that I notice in the movie that I won’t be using in my project was the cheerful setting. Most of the movie took place in the family home where it had a light and airy tone. The initial setting was a direct contrast to the intent of the film. I will be sure to keep my setting a line with my genre. I did love the element of unease in the Annabelle movie. They used threat of safety towards the baby as a way to strike anxiety in the hearts of viewers. Overall, watching Annabelle gave me lots of clues and tips that I will use to my advantage.
