Genre Research: Horror

In the beginning of the year, I completed a PowerPoint genre project focused on horror. Throughout this project, I was asked to research and present various complexed entities that are part of the horror genre. Slide one, I presented common lighting seen in the horror genre through pictures. Lightings like up lighting, silhouette and underexposure were part of this slide. Second slide was about common camera angles in horror films. By my research, Close up low angle in tilted angle are three common angles used in horror films. These various angles were presented through pictures on my slide. To illustrate close-up angle, I used the infamous “Get Out” picture of the main character in shock with tears rolling down his face. Third slide, I specified common movement in horror films and explained their impact. For an example the slow zoom movement was used in the horror film “get out” released in 2017. I explained that this movement dramatizes the characters actions or reactions; giving off intense emotions to viewers. Fourth slide, I listed the elements of horror films. Unpredictability, element of surprise, graphic violence, terror, dark/gloomy tone are just some of the elements I listed. Fifth slide, I presented three cover pictures of horror movies as an example. In my last information slide I showed a common sound used in horror films; the waterphone. I presented this instrument through an audio clip that was inserted into my PowerPoint. I also showed a picture of the instrument for visual representation. Overall, my project was gave a insight to the horror genre and what goes into it. I also shared my likes and dislikes about this genre and my reasons why. I enjoyed this project and hope it was helpful to others.
