Filming Blog

Image
Over Thanksgiving break, I filmed a portion of my video. Firstly, I had to decorate my house for Christmas to set the scene. I had to do a lot of holiday cleaning to ensure that everything was precise. Then I set up the Christmas tree with the help of my family. I got to rap the lights all around the Christmas tree which turned out to light up the room. We then unboxed all the antique ornaments and began to place them upon the tree. Sadly during this process, I dropped one of the ornaments causing it to break. Most of the ornaments are passed down from my great-grandmother who collected them as a hobby. Since I got to place the tree topper last year, this year it was my sister turn. I then decorated my living room tables and stands. I have many Christmas figurines that I line the selves with. I filmed all the parts that don't include actors. In total it came out to be about 6 short video clips. I used a variety of camera shots to show as much of the decorations as possible. I did a...

I choose to do a Christmas themed music video. The video will be done to the famous Christmas song "Silent Night". This song is composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. I will be suing the version sung by the group Pentatonix. In Christmas these videos, actors are taking part in various holiday activities.  People in music videos normally wear Santa, reindeer or other Christmas themed costumes.  There might also be holiday foods set as props. Props include Christmas trees, Santa hats, and ornaments. Fake snow, holiday treats and red lights are also props in such music videos. The actors appearance is joyful and holiday spirited. Actors do this to try and make viewers feel the holiday spirit.  The score throughout the music video is fast-pace catchy beat with sentiments or Christmas props like Christmas bells in the background. This is to make the viewer grasp the concept of Christmas time.  Conventions and code in holiday music videos include a Santa character. Thi...

Hi, my name is Jalyn Flournoy, and I am a student in AICE Media Studies. I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High School in the Cambridge program. When choosing classes this year, I was adamant on taking media studies for numerous reasons. Firstly, I heard from upperclassmen who recommended it for its insight in film making which inspired new hobbies for them. I also am exploring different career fields to see where my future should go. Lastly, I heard how fun yet insightful this course is. So far, this year I have thoroughly enjoyed media studies. Media Studies is the only class that I am taking where my creativity can be displayed in my work. Media studies has also given me knowledgeable information that I would not have if not for this course. At first, I was a little apprehensive because I did not have any pervious knowledge on film making or the industry. Media studies has shocked me with how much I know in a short amount of time. Media studies has also given me a new hobby....

Contigo Commercial

Image
This was my first time doing a commercial. There were lots of things I could have approved upon. Firstly, I think my planning could of improved. I think I should of been more realistic with my location choices. I also would of prepared costumes myself. The exercise scene had to be re-recorded.  I choose to do this because I didn't like what the actor was wearing. Therefore, in the future I will provide costumes so they can be to my liking. I also would've loved to get professional camera. I feel that the quality of my commercial would be greater if I had one. I would've loved to use a more advanced editing software. Most of the ones I looked up were costly. Therefore, I had to use a software that was free. I would've preferred to  use more than one actor. Due to Covid, I didn't feel safe using other actors so I choose my mom. I feel like having a variety of actors would of displayed how my product can uses by all types of people. I think for my first commercial I d...

Editing Blog

The editing process was a bit difficult for me. Even though I liked how short time limit, it did present some issues. When I did a rough draft of my commercial, it came out to 42 seconds. I definitely knew I had serious cutting to do because it was 12 seconds over. For each clip I had to read over the scripts and see where I was able to cut off my talking. For example, the exercise scene was 13 seconds long and needed to be modified. The original script read, "The Contigo bottle is amazing for physical activity. Keeping liquids at desired temperatures, allowing users to drink comfortably. The Contigo brand has specific bottles for hot and cold liquids. The Contigo bottle also comes in a variety of colors and prints." I ended up cutting it at "the Contigo bottle is amazing for physical activity. Keeping liquids at desired temperatures, allowing users to drink comfortably." After cutting that clip, it came out to be 7 seconds. I had to do the same thing to the work s...
